(Formerly Bluestone Baptist Association and Harmony Baptist Association)
The Bluestone Baptist Association was organized around 1871. An area of focus for the organization was to establish a school so that black boys and girls could have the privilege of obtaining an education. There were no high school facilities, neither public nor private in the Charlotte, Lunenburg or surrounding counties.
The Bluestone Baptist Association purchased 100 acres of land near Keysville, Virginia to build a school. On December 6,1898, the Keysville Mission Industrial School was opened under the auspices of the Bluestone Baptist Association with Professor William M. Hayes as principal. At the 1899 – 1900 session of the Virginia Legislature, the Honorable A.S. Priddy had the school chartered with full academic, normal and industrial powers.
The Harmony Association came into existence around 1877 – 1878. An area of focus for the organization was to establish a school so that black boys and girls could have the privilege of obtaining an education. The two Associations were merged in August of 1900 and became the Bluestone-Harmonic Academic and Industrial School.
Since December, 1962, the newly organized Bluestone Harmony Association has operated as one body in Christ, when it was decided that in times of crisis a unified effort on the part of the two Associations could most effectively facilitate the cause of Christ and Christian education.
